FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before booking your Azerbaijan experience.

Is it safe to go to Azerbaijan now?

Yes, it is absolutely safe! The capital city of Baku and popular tourist destinations (such as Quba, Shaki, Gabala, and Shamakhi) are exceptionally peaceful and highly welcoming for visitors.

  • Vibrant and Safe Streets: You can safely walk the streets of Baku day and night. Violent crime against tourists is practically non-existent.
  • Warm Culture: Azerbaijani people are incredibly hospitable and love hosting international guests. You will feel just as comfortable here as in any modern European metropolis.

Quick Reminder: If you plan to stay in the country for more than 15 days, you are required to register with the State Migration Service. Your hotel will naturally take care of this process for you free of charge.

When is the best time of year to visit Azerbaijan?

Azerbaijan is a great year-round destination, but the most ideal times to visit depend on what you want to experience:

  • Spring (April - June): Perfect for sightseeing and nature tours. The weather is pleasantly warm, and nature is fully blooming.
  • Autumn (September - November): Highly recommended! The extreme summer heat drops, making it fantastic for city walks and cultural trips.
  • Winter (December - March): Ideal for winter sports lovers, especially at the Shahdag and Tufandag ski resorts.

Do I need a visa to enter Azerbaijan?

Many nationalities can enter Azerbaijan easily. Citizens of certain countries (like Turkey, Russia, and several CIS nations) can enter visa-free.

For most other international tourists, Azerbaijan offers a fast and simple ASAN e-Visa. It takes only a few minutes to apply online, and the standard e-Visa is usually issued within 3 working days. An urgent e-Visa option is also available, which processes within just 3 hours.

What is the local currency, and can I use my credit card everywhere?

The official currency is the Azerbaijani Manat (AZN).

Credit and debit cards (Visa and MasterCard) are widely accepted in Baku, including at hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, and large stores. However, if you plan to visit local markets, take a taxi off the street, or travel to remote villages and mountainous regions outside the capital, we highly recommend carrying some cash in AZN for small purchases.

How do I ensure I'm booking with a reputable tour operator for Azerbaijan day trips?

When searching for a reputable tour operator in Azerbaijan, especially for day trips from Baku, there are a few critical factors you should always verify to guarantee a safe and premium experience:

  • Local Expertise vs. Global Resellers: Booking directly with a local operator like Putivnik ensures you have direct communication with the team on the ground, bypassing third-party global resellers who lack local knowledge.
  • Secure Payments: A trustworthy operator will always offer 100% secure, encrypted online payments (such as Stripe) rather than asking for unverified cash transfers.
  • Flexible Cancellation Policy: Reputable companies value your peace of mind. Look for operators providing transparent, hassle-free cancellation policies—like our guaranteed 24-hour full refund policy.
  • 24/7 Dedicated Support: Ensure the operator provides round-the-clock assistance. Whether you need to change a pickup location or ask a quick question, reliable operators are always reachable.

At Putivnik, we pride ourselves on being an officially licensed local operator. We provide hand-picked, certified professional guides and well-maintained vehicles to ensure your Azerbaijan day trips are highly memorable, secure, and perfectly organized.

Is there a specific dress code or cultural etiquette I should follow?

Azerbaijan is a highly modern and secular country. In Baku and other major cities, everyday western-style clothing (jeans, t-shirts, dresses, shorts) is completely normal and acceptable.

The only exception is when entering mosques or specific religious sites; in these areas, both men and women should dress modestly (covering shoulders and knees), and women are usually required to cover their hair with a scarf.
